Some years ago, while serving as a radio presenter on The Ambassadors Radio Show on Unilag Fm, I had the privilege of interviewing Chris Kwekowe of Slatecube. We met at an event where he shared his story after winning the Anzisha Prize of $25,000 and rejecting a job offer from Bill Gates. Oh yeah, you read right, “Bill Gates”.
.
.

As I sat in the crowd listening to him share his story, I kept asking myself if this guy was actually 22 years old. For a moment or two, I doubted the possibility of me being 23 or less, because I couldn’t just wrap my head around how a young man like him could have achieved so this much, and still feels like he hasn’t even scratched the surface yet.
.
.

Trust me, I needed to sit with him, speak with him, ask him some questions, and perhaps get the “charm” he was using😂😂😂😂 so, I got his contact and scheduled an interview with him on radio.
.
.
Finally, we had him in the studio after series of cancelled appointment as he was usually in and out of the country. I remember vividly one question I threw at him and the answer he gave me.

Read on.

Me (Interviewer) : “Chris, how do you you feel, achieving all of these at 22”?

Chris: “Mary, I don’t feel extraordinary. I mean, these are normal things. I even think there is so much more I can still achieve and will still achieve”.

Me: (with the strangest look on my face), I fired back. Chris, this is such a big deal for a 22year old. I mean, this is not normal. (I kept on emphasizing that 22)

Chris: Mary, I think you feel this way because of your level of exposure. Outside this country, people younger than you and I are doing alot more than you can imagine. They build systems and applications that you and I use. It’s not strange in their community because they have been exposed to those kinds of trainings and so they are able to maximize their potentials as early as possible. At 22, I am not young. There is so much you and I can do and the earlier we get at it, the better for us.
.
.

Men and brethren, this response I got from Chris changed my perspectives about some basic things in life. I think it’s in this part of the world we still refer to a 25year old as a child or still growing. I mean, at 27, some persons think they still have a looonnggg way to go and so even at this age, they do not have a clear definition of their life’s journey. It’s pathetic if you ask me.
.
.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not about your age, it’s about what you know and what you have been exposed to at this current stage of your life.
.
.

Follow me to Genesis, when God told Abraham he would be father to many nations. Ha. Never. How is that possible, Abraham thought. It took God to bring him outside, to ask him to count the stars in the sky, if he could, for Abraham to believe. That’s what the power of exposure can do for you.
.
.

See, some things will look to you like magic until you attain some level of exposures mentally, financially, spiritually and other spheres. You will argue the impossibility of some things until you start giving yourself some ease of advancement in all ramifications. You cannot afford to remain in a closed cubicle and expect to see things happening in the outside world. It is not possible.
.
.

You necessarily don’t have to travel the world to be exposed. You have the world right there in your palms. Use this tool judiciously for your own emancipation. Enough of the old wine!!! Have you not read??, that when the new wine comes, the old becomes tasteless and obsolete. Don’t confine your self to mental darkness, open your mind and learn. Learn. Keep learning.
.
.

I beg you with everything worthy, don’t allow the devil deal with you by allowing your mediocrity to reach the apex and then disgracing you, it won’t be nice at all.
.
.

Expose yourself. Emancipate your mind. Learn. Meet people that can help you grow. Leave gossips, it won’t help you. Improve your self. Never say never. Read. Develop. Leave the camp of mediocres, you can never rise beyond your mindset! There is more to life. So much more. Explore. Be Exposed. Live your best life while you are still alive.
